Under the leadership of our first President, John Murray, the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club was formed by a small group of transplanted Rotarians who moved to the Islands from a number of states around the country, and by local islanders who wanted to be more involved in the community.

With the support and sponsorship of fellow Rotarians from Fort Myers Beach,  the Rotary Club of Sanibel & Captiva Florida was chartered by Rotary International on March 18,1980 and has proudly been serving our community for over 36 years.

To provide financial support to the causes and organizations we sponsor, we raise funds in a variety of ways. The First Club Fundraiser was a “Pancake Breakfast” held on March 14th 1981.

At these breakfasts, local artists were requesting space to display their artwork.  As these requests grew, the Club decided to focus on organizing and presenting an Annual Arts & Crafts Fair.

In 1988, the Fair was moved to the Sanibel School and held there until 2004 when it returned to the fields surrounding the Sanibel Community House.  We now typically host over 110 exceptional Artists and up to 20,000 visitors annually at the Fair.
