The term “Avenues of Service” is frequently used in Rotary literature and information. The “Avenues” refer to the five ways in which Rotarians strive to meet the Object of Rotary. They are:
- Club Service This involves all of the activities necessary for Rotarians to perform in order to make their club function successfully. This includes the President, Secretariat, Treasurer, Sergeant, Membership Development, and Public Relations.
- Vocational Service . This refers to the opportunity each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation to the other members of the club and the community by using their vocational skills to provide service.
- Community Service pertains to those activities which Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their community. It frequently involves assistance to youth, the aged, handicapped and others who look to Rotary as a source of hope for a better life.
- International Service, describes the many programs and activities which Rotarians undertake to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace. International Service projects are designed to meet humanitarian needs of people in many lands. Programs include The Rotary Foundation, Ambassadorial Scholars , Scholarships, Group Study Exchange, Rotary Youth Exchange, Paul Harris Fellow Recognition, World Peace Scholarships, Shelterboxes, Rotary Project Volunteers, and PolioPlus.
- New Generations. recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding. Programs include Debating Competition, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Youth Exchange, Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment, Seminars For Tomorrows Leaders (S4TL) and the Model United Nations Assembly.
